Max II Frame Flex

The Max II I have is 1998 14hp. When I'm riding it over uneven terrain I can feel the backrest part of the seat moving back and forth. The only thing I know of that would cause this is for the frame to flex. I had another 1998 Max before this one and don't remember it doing this. I also remember reading on this site somewhere that the Max II did have troubles with the frames flexing.
Was this something that was corrected mid year in 98? Will the frame crack if this keeps up or is this normal? Fred I'm guessing you would be the guy with the answer to this one but anyone with some info on this would be appreciated.

hey lazerman: on my '78 max i found the same...it's just lack of tickness (metal gap) on frame....as far as it doesn't crack..go for it...keep bouncing...the solution is to add "extra" frame work...and since all body is made of plastic is better to repair the frame if fatigue shows on..i repair mine with some water on tub and wet rags to avoid bottom hull perforation with welding sparks.....due to little tickness on frame better to go with 120,000 psi bimetal enable welding rod 1/16" ( 45 amps) ( like eutectic+castolin xuper 680 cgs/gold)

Lazerman, There should be quite a bit of flex in a max frame because it is all on one plane. To my knowledge, there have been no problems in this area. I think you will notice the flex more in cold weather and if your tires are at higher PSI. You will also notice it more if the machine is fully loaded

Here's another one for ya. I sent this one to Dave in a personal email to him but I thought I would post it on the site to see what kind of feed back I got.

Did you ever rev up the engine with the sticks in natural
and them push forward to engage the Trans? I did this over the
Weekend, I was trying to move a big log. (Didn't move the log) but I did get the wheels to spin. With out doing this the engine only bogs down. And no I didn't just let the stick go. I eased them in but rather quickly. Can the trans take it?

hey lazerman: nice max's limit performances test!!!...just let us know when you finally break something!!! ( a chain/torque converter/...)...fortunately you handles small power ( 14 h.p.) and max survived punishment even from 440 kawasaki engines ( + 35h.p.)...but suddently stress is a break away temptation!!!! enjoy bouncing

Lazerman, I do that to my Max all the time when the engine is too weak to turn the wheels. It works really good. It is just like popping the clutch on a truck. This move can get you out of some tight spots.
I can only fell the frame flex when I rest my knee on the inside side of the upper body (where that warning sticker is). I haven't felt it on the backrest. Nothing to worry about though.
