I have a 1970 sears sportster All-terrain Vehicle Model # 917.700050. We had it out this winter driving it, everything worked great, We just got it back out to ride and the stearing is not functioning properly. This is what is happening, it will move forward and backwards but will not steer right or left. Going forward if you pull back on right stick it acts like it throws it into neutral and stops. I was observing the pully on the side of the transmission while it was sitting and noticed that the pully would not move while idleing, but when the right stick was pulled back it started turning the transmission as if it was in neutral.When you let off of the stick it will go forward again. Pulling on the left stick going forward it will just go forward and will not turn. When put into reverse pulling both levers back it will move back and when you let off the left stick it still moves straight back and will not turn while holding the right stick back. I don't reallly understand what is going on....havn't had any problems and now all the sudden this! Here is some info below that might help.
Transmission is a T-20 skid steer with planetary gear system. Single forward speed, neutral, and reverse. automatic torque sensitive, torque- converter. I went through the manual that I have and adjusted plungers according to specs. Can anyone help?
I have the sears parts book. and discription guides to go with this machine.

David, My guess is that you have your t-20 adjusted too tight. You want 3/16" movement of the brake bars away from the tranny case (not over 1/4"). Have both plungers on a side all the way out (use a big screw driver to pry them out) keeping the brake bar as close to straight up and down as possible. To adjust or after you have adjusted, have the machine with all wheels off the ground and check the function making sure you have neutral. With the levers all the way forward (in forward gear), you are in drive. With the levers in the middle you should be in neutral (free wheel), levers all the way back, the brake is on. In reverse gear, levers forward the brake is on, in the middle should be neutral.
All the way back is reverse drive. You should have from 6" to 10" lever travel (pull one back and push one forward; measure from center of one stick to center the other stick) after adjusting the laterals.
