an easy way to eliminated the 3 wheel syndrome on argos and to try to emulate the lovely performances of the t 20 tranny an easy improvement inside argos tranny should be made........to replace part 35 l and r( diferential satelite spacer) with restrictive friction washer set.........that way this tranny will be converted into a limited slip one....after all you only need a little restriction on light traction side to get the true ALL WHEEL DRIVE BENEFIT.....so those proposed friction washers will made the trick..

Is this a modification that you have actually done and tried out, or is it a modification that you are suggesting may work? Just curious!

Perhaps the good Doctor, "Argoguru" will log on to review and comment on this mod!

He is missing in action currently, last time I talked to him on the phone, he was moving into a new house and was planning to do a ride event back on the 13th and 14th.

HEY BIG WOLF: this post is just related to logical way to go......i don"t try it because i"mnot an argo operator...i"m a maxll driver....but i will like to see argo machines working great as max do!!...i had the oportunity to check here a 2002 big foot and no question about...material and bulding technics are far away better than maxes....however the free spin diferential make those units far away back, compared with t20 units (maxes foe example), when you use them on extreme terrains.......after all if someone is going to use 6x6 or 8x8 on not so dificult terrain maybe they can go more confortable with suspension units..........but the mofification that i proposed for argo tranny, in order to make positive traction can be done WITHOUT disturbing the diferential cage or assembly.............this proposal will work on permanent basis...therefore when operate with this proposal will be a little more resistence to start spining or to make any turn...( more efford to brake system).....

I Have Many Hours On An Argo 8x8 magnum In Northern Alberta And Have Found That If One Side Is Spinning And The Other Side Is Stationary Simply Apply Light Brake Pressure To The Spinning Side And It Forces The Stationary Side To Turn Thus Driving Out Of The Mess.I Have Yet To See Any Thing Stop My Argo Except A Downed Tree Sitting Higher Than The Bumper Ring.

The best solution is simply more horse power. the tranny does not bother me a bit, just the hp. it is simple proven and reliable. possy traction would be nice but is not worth more maintenence. Jon

snargo, how many hours do you have on your machine? Do you still have the 18 hp kohler magnum engine? Have you run into any problems mechanically with the machine after the 600 hour mark?

HEY SNARGO: your suggestion should works great...teorically!!!........check david spilberger extreme mud video and you will watch how ALL of open diferential machines get a rought time at ramona mut pit.........basically the proposed positive traction is to make what you says that work great for you ON PERMANENT BASIS........but i doubd that you can keep an eye on both sides (left and right) SIMULTANEOUSLY to correct the spin with brake level............unless you install a couple of fish eye design mirrows on front of aatv to check front wheel spin.......


ARGOGERU: more h.p. only will give you more spin on loose side!!!.....positive traction shouldnot give you MORE MANTENIANCE that seldom replacement of friction whasher

Hey tropicjungleboy, If you did the research and development work for this "limited slip" I bet people would buy it. I would like to see what peole had to say about it after taking a "limited slip model" though Ramonas mud hole.
PS I have spent much time in that famous mud hole and will miss it.

if you watch that video of davids again you will see the machine making it out of all sides of the mudhole is an orange 8x8 argo, 1982 to be precise, that was me, and I had 23 hp. and better tire spin than other 8x8 and 6x6 machines. Mudbuster also makes that mudhole look simple, more so than I, for the most part in my opinion, because of Horsepower, which he has alot of. driving an argo has more of a learning curve than a max because of the diff. but can be just as effective with horsepower and knowing how to drive it..
