Hello;
We recently purchased a Max II slightly used, my son has driven about 5 hrs on it, and hit a bump and the engine died, the only way he could get it to run decent is to leave the choke on. Otherwise as soon as you hit the throttle it dies. I checked gas going to the carb and it was fine, took off top of bowl and checked float and it seems to be responsive and letting in gas, I am guessing maybe the air/fuel ratio mixture jet, however with that limiter on it, I cannot take out or turn in to eleminate any debris blocking orifice, anyone have this problem before, or know if I am on the right track? You can imagine how anxious he is to ride. Thank You. Chip

Chip,
It sounds like maybe the carb has some debris in it. There are many ways to clean and fix the problem, but I have found best to take it to a small engine shop and have them clean and rebuid it. We have a shop that does it for us and only charges us $15 per B&S carb. They told us they hook up some type of air hose and use some type of cleaner to get everything blown out and then just put it back together. Now also, check your gas tank to see if there is any debris in it. You might have to clean the tank and maybe replace the gas line. Hope this helps you out.

REMOVE THE TOP OF THE CARB AND CLEAN IT OUT, YOU HAVE DIRT OF DRIED UP GAS IN THE JET. THIS IS THE BEST WAY, BUT YOU COULD TRY A BOTTLE OF CARB CLEANER IN THE GAS, BUT THIS IS SLOW.
GOOD LUCK

Thanks to all that helped, I actually had the top off the carb and sprayed with Carb cleaner before writing, with no luck, However, after I wrote the first thread, I was going to be working double shifts for a few days and knew I would not get back to it, for a little while, so I dumped in a little carb cleaner treatment in the gas before going in for work and told my son to try and run it a little to let it get into the system. When I got a chance to talk with him again, he said that after a little while of running, he was able to put the choke back off and it runs great. So needless to say I will run in a few more tank fulls to be sure we got her clean, Again thanks to you all. He is having a blast with it.
