Hello, my 84 argo 8x8 goes into reverse fine on idle but when I start rolling in reverse there is this terrible noise/squeal. The same noise you get when your trying to break a tight lug nut. It rolls in forward gear fine though. I just got it and it was sitting exposed all winter. Thanks, Tony

Tony,
the reverse gear in an argo tranny has a bushing seperating the gear itself, from the solid metal rod it rotates on. I would bet that is your problem. very cheap part, 4 bucks I believe, but 4 hours of work minimum to crack the case and change the bushing and reistall the tranny. No matter the case, You need to split the tranny and fix the problem, all those gears in their are very expensive to replace, and one piece of broke free metal will do alot of damage. Jon
