I blow a 30 amp fuse Then the solenoid engages the starter will not shut off at starter switch solenoid is bad This has happened twice on my 2002 maxII 850T first Time a mile out in the swamp long walk back first time in august this time this past weekend kohler 23hp scared now to go any distance Paid 10.000 for this can't trust this what might be wrong

Check with your dealer or call RI (800)255-2511. Someone will be able to figure out what is wrong. It sounds to me like it is more than just the solenoid.

What did your dealer have to say about the problem? Did you call Recreatives and ask them if this is common?
If your in the middle of no where, you shuld be able to jump the starter directly from the battery.
I know the Kohlers don't have a pull start, but you should be able to rap a rope around the clutch to get it going again.

mines so old now and with a diferent engine as well but i had troubles with my solinoid, it was down on fraim and some times water got in it,
i mounted my solinoid up high and also replaced the fuze with a curcut braker so the whole body dident have to come off just to replace the dang fuze each time,
the batery conections under your seat could be fixed up for a quick disconect on one of the terminals so you could still start your buggy and shut down the starter,
i also expiremented with some diferent solinoids that are out there, the crisler one worked a good while but it did finaly fuze and stay on like yours, the ford style worked ok till vibration cracked the mounting flange wich also is your ground, i found the tractor solinoids worked best posably because they took vibration into acount with there design, try mounting on you engine or top of trany,
highere than any water could posably get at it, they do leak eventualy,
i take it you don't have a pull start?
it's realy a good idea to ride with a groop anyway,
one last thing to look at:
how many amps is your starter pulling?
if it is falty it will draw too much and posably destroy your solinoids and such,

While not related to your problem, on an 18hp vanguard, I replaced the Briggs solenoids twice.

They somehow collected water and would freeze during winter and corrode as well. I replaced it with an aftermaked solenoid from AutoZone and have had no more troubles.

Just buy a solenoid at autozone that is made for a older ford or buy one the is totaly sealed. they are cheep and will last for ever. you mite try putting a baggie over it to keep the water out.
