Video clips of hill climbing?

All the pictures on this site deal with a flat earth. Just mud and water. I've only found one picture on the entire internet of hill climbing, and that was an Argo. Why don't people post video clips of their machines in action? Why isn't their a clip of Brandon flying off a bank into a lake?

Video footage of most types of AATVing can be found on my collection of tapes of the Humphrey events and Ribits Riders Trail Rides. Go to the Lets Ride topic for a list of whats available and how to obtain them. This has grown into quite an enjoyable hobby now that I see how much folks love watching the tapes. You can also contact me at jsschwab@localnet.com or through this site

I'm sure there are many videos of my airborne Max but I don't know anyone who has the video equipment to put it on the internet. Were you at Deepwater? That one cliff ten feet above the water is calling my name. It would be quite a rush to jump the Max off that. I think I would need national TV coverage to make that jump worth while!

We could take up a collection of money for anyone who wanted to jump that. I'll give $20 plus the use of my Max to anyone who will do it at the next ride.

Brandon,
You give my your Max to use and I will jump it. I don't want to use mine just in case it sinks. Thats the only reason I haven't done it yet. That would be a rush to jump. I

I'd pay good money to see anyone jump a vehicle with little or no suspension jump a ten foot cliff into the water! I would even try that off a 3 foot cliff, or drop.

Brandon,

No problem. I'll even jump your quad off it also! :)

So guys, back to the orginal subject of hill climbing video clips. Why don't some of you put some video clips on your websites? Even some clips of handling mud would be interesting.

Don,

I would love to put some stuff up on the internet for all to see. I have the means of converting from VHS into streaming video, or MPEG or AVI movies you can download from the internet. I only need two things... A) The space for it (web space that is) and B) the footage! :-)

I may record some stuff the more I get out there with my Argo and post it (or at least a link to it). In the meantime, if anyone knows a web site that has them, please post it!!!

promoza@aol.com is trying right now to do that same thing, im going to send him 5 sec clips when i can to see it they will fit,
he has a site but so far it dosent seam to work,
we need to find out what exactly is nesesary to webcast videos, can anyone shed light on this,

hey tj, can you find out how its done on tower citys site?

Chris M

Are you willing to pay for space on a site?? You can get sites that will host video footage, but it will cost you a few dollars. They aren't much but, it is something. Some sites will support it for free. www.50megs.com is great. They will give you 50 megs free or you can pay a small fee for more space than you need.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Sam Keys on Unrecorded Date: Edit

I bet richard would post them there on route6x6
if you would ask, what better place for all to see them?

i'm putting up a page with video clips on it it wont be working till after xmas but as soon as i get a better host it will be up and running

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Chris M. (Argomaster9000) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

David,

I was seriously thinking about it. I've begun an Argo web site already, which is not yet on the internet since I am still working on it. Something similar to this one, but more Argo-oriented, since I am a huge Argo fan.

I've found several really good hosts for web sites. Some even offer generous web space, but then they turn around and shove the "traffic limit" in my face. This is certainly an issue since I can't post any videos if there is a bandwidth traffic limit in place per month. People will download a few video clips from my web site and the entire site will be shut down for the rest of the month. HEH.

I'll keep searching for a nice site. I would be willing to pay a small (reasonable) fee, since this is one of my most enjoyable hobbies (Argos and web design). Perhaps as time goes on and the web site expands some people may help cover costs (on a voluntary basis).

CHRIS,
THAT SHAIRING COSTS MAY BE AN ATRACTIV WAY TO ACOMPLISH THIS COMMON GOAL,
IF IT IS POSABLE TO LINK SOME SITES TOGETHER AND YOURS HOSTS THE VIDEO CLIPS,
SEAMS LIKE SOMETHING THAT MIGHT WORK!

G'day all,
I'm in Australia, and would really like to see some of your ATV's in action. As it's a bit far to go for me, I'd settle for a video, but you folks use a different system to what we have. This makes me a bit hesitant about getting one of the videos, much as I would really like to! For me, downloading them would not be possible due to the large bandwidth usage.
However, if I could purchase a CDROM filled with a bunch of AVI's, MPEGs etc., or a VCD, I would really appreciate it. It would be cheap to churn out copies; I'd pay (say) 10 or 15 USD for one, and the good thing is a bunch of you folks could combine your footage and burn it all onto one unified offering. Most DVD/VCD players sold around the world can AFAIK play NTSC/PAL/SECAM.
What do you blokes think?

Steve.

Hi Steve- I spoke to our computer wizard at work about your request and he suggested that you see if someone in your country can convert our NTSC into you PAL. This way you could get what you want in an inexpensive tape form, I could set you up with enough footage to last you a couple of weeks! Maybe BigKodiak should shed some light on this , he is a computer guru. I hope someone comes up with a feasable solution for you, I would love to be able to say that my videos are being watched in the southern hemisphere. So far the farthest I have sent a video is Alaska and several to France.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Chris M. (Argomaster9000) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Steve,

John is right. I don't know about Australia, but here in Canada, I can take your PAL into a European video rental store and they can convert it to NTSC for me to watch on my North American VCR. It only costs a few dollars for the tapes (which is MORE than worth it in the case of Argo videos!) HEHE!!!

John,

You've mentioned "inexpensive tape form." I think the least expensive form would be on CD in the form of VCD or SVCD. I can whip up a VideoCD for about 50 cents. Video tapes are more expensive (and weigh a bit more to send overseas) in my opinion. But either way, we have LOTS of options here for those who are interested.

By the way, how much would you charge to send over copies of your tapes? I would be quite interested to know (and some other people reading this may also be interested). My location is approximately Toronto, Canada. Thanks!

Steve, My buddy has a $900. digt. camera and he rode with me on a couple of rides.{ Deepwater Missouri,& Badlands in Attica Indana.}We have a hole bunch of pictures and 10 or 11 20 to 30 sec. videos. My Bigfoot was new and we was enjoying the rides otherwise we would of got a lot more. I've sent one to Troy and Brandon on this site but never ask them if they could see them or not.I have them on my harddrive .But I've taken the cd to freinds house or put it in my labtop and just excess that drive.I guess it's that E-Z.I'm not a computer wiz ,Just a 6x6 nut!! I don't want money for this,But i don't know what it cost to send something like this to there you live. Rick

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Argomaster- I guess what I meant by "inexpensive tape form" is the total cost of obtaining the footage, editing, copying and having the final product in a form that everyone can afford to watch. Not everyone has a computer, and many that do don't have one that play videos efficiently(including myself). My videos average about two hours long and many are well over three hours. I could not imagine watching that on my monitor. Everyone has access to a VCR. I sell my videos for $15 which includes first class postage. I only make enough to cover the cost of new cameras and home equipment when they wear out, which is about annually for cameras.

Speaking of video prices, after Jan 1st the price of videos will be $18 reflecting the increase in everything related to producing and mailing them.It costs $2 more to mail them to Canada.

rick,i am with you,i took three rolls of film of troy's last deepwater ride, to my local wal-mart for developing, and then had them all put on to a disc, cost about $5.00. if my kids would tell me how to do it i could get them into a film type clip.all be it they would be like a slide show.but they were some really good shots.i'm still trying to figure out how to post them here.my kid's just laugh at me.i know more about offroading than i do about computing.

Mike, Go to yahoo and become a member, go to the photos page. Put your pictures in an album, give access to everyone. Come back here and use "formatting" to learn how to insert the URL address of your photo album. All this is free and you can also get free email.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Chris M. (Argomaster9000) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

John,

You've made some really good points here. I have a rather up-to-date computer and I should wake up and realize that not everyone can play videos on their computer. I guess it depends on which part of the world you live in. Here, re-writable CDs are VERY cheap compared to VHS tapes so it only makes sense to create VCDs and SVCDs of movies.

Would you be able to give me some more information about your videos? What are they about and how long each and what would they have on them. I would be interested in buying a copy from you.

mike there are places people here on the discussion have put pix that also had butons for flip and slide showes, promoza@aol.com could tell you how to join the yahoo groop he started, there is a photo section you can creat your own folder to shair with members, it also has slide show buttons,

Chris M- I suppose at some point I should learn more about what will soon common in the world of video. But up until now no one has ever asked me about any other format than tapes. Most of my videos are 2 hrs long, several are three and one-half hours long. Can that length be put on a CD with regular home equipment or would that work have to be "farmed out"? I would consider putting my extensive video library on discs as long as it would still be affordable to everyone to buy, it certainly would be a better quality product. By the way , I also do videos of street motorcycles, my Quad riding adventures, snowmobiling, whitewater kayaking and next spring skydiving if I don't chicken out.
I currently have eight different AATV videos. Most are of our Jamborees at Humphrey NY and trail rides in several different states. They are all edited so that they can be watched by the whole family. Anyone interested can email me at jsschwab@localnet.com and I will send you info.

John,

Here's the deal with VCDs... You're always sacraficing QUALITY over QUANTITY. I've seen full-length Hollywood movies put onto regular CDs with amazing quality, but I don't know how to do it yet. You can fit 2 hours in a CD with quite reasonable quality. You will notice quality loss on a computer monitor most of the time and not on a TV because of the difference in dot pitch (TV is more "blurred" and that's why you can't see it as well, whereas a monitor resolution is very sharp so any mistakes will show up).

I've still yet to master the techniques of proper video compression (which I won't get into here). So far, I've created quite professional looking home videos with editing, professional titles, blended scenes, transitions, etc. I love the letter-box effect and I use it often. I've even learned how to create professional DVD menus into my movies but I still need a DVD-R to create DVDs with. Oh well, perhaps sometime in the future. The best picture quality I get is from my satellite system which is digital and uses S-Video output... Amazing stuff!

I've started my interest in digital video editing since I got my ATI Radeon 8500 DV video card this summer. Man, I love it!

fred and david thanks for the info, i already have yahoo,so now i'll try the photo's page and see if i can get those pics in there.then i'll get promoaza and see if he can get better aquainted with it. one question,do i need to transfer them to floppy or can i just take it off the cd??? another little secret my kids won't tell me.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Fred Sowerwine, Montana's Max Dealer (Fred4dot) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Mike, you can transfer them straight off the CD. When you select browse, go to your CD drive and upload them from there.

John, adding discs to your sales line probably wouldn't be a trouble free, no brainer process. But you could look into it, as it's your field of interest.

http://www.digital-digest.com/ good variety of forums

http://www.divx.com/ home of DIVX, the latest video compression tool, free for download. Compress a 5 gig DVD movie with audio into a 600-700 meg movie with MP3 sound that will fit on a computer cd.

Basically you have different levels of video compression. Mpeg1, Mpeg2, Mpeg4 (I think) that's what Divx is. New methods to compress data size and enhance picture. Divx and other programs will let you change resolution and picture quality.. like Chris said, you get to trade quality for quantity. Better picture, shorter length, vice versa, or a happy medium in between.

AAH YES BUT ONLY MPG1 AND MPG2 WILL PLAY ON DVD PLAYERS,
