Rex.I'm a max dealer in East TN. and have a 900T w/ 26 tires.I just took it for it's 1st swamp crossing and am thoroughly impressed to say the least ! If you would like to see some photos of the Max in action then E-mail me and I'll send you some pics. I've been ridding 4 wheelers for years(mostly 2 strokes,my last was a Honda Pilot) and can say matter of factly that a Max will go places no 4 wheeler could hope for.My 900T will pull 2 Pollaris Sportsmen 500's backwards(I've not actually had the oppertunity yet but will gladly rise to the challenge!)and climd hills they could'nt and cross streams they would'nt. I'm not trying to nock a 4 whlr,they have their place,it's just that a 6x6 is so much more in one package.My 900T was able to extract itself(with me in it of course!)from a mud hole that no 4x4 would have emerged from w / out a winch and then some! I had it burried to just shy of the top of the tires on one side & halfway on the other,it was draging its bottom in the muck and yet I was able to manuever it and back out,this all occured in a small shallow pond (about an acre wide & 2-3 ft deep in the middle)which seemed to have quicksand instead of mud. Thanks,Kyle

I just had my first experience with deep sticky mud. I wanted to explore the lake bed at our church camp. They blew the dam a few months ago to do maintenance work on the lake, and the bed is drying out and cracking - except for the central creek bed. Most of bed consists of a cracked layer of dry mud on top of a sea of goo. Children out exploring on foot were waist deep in glop and loosing shoes in the suction. My Argo Response handled that with no trouble. Then I tried to cross the central creek bed. The mud was almost the consistency of potter's clay or thin cake frosting. Going in was no trouble, but I still had to climb out the other side. No such luck. I was stuck fast, and it took a lot of tow straps & chains to reach anything approaching firm ground. What a mess! My first rule of mud is now - Don't go through it if you can go around it!

WELL I DID IT. I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW MAX 4 AND THE ONLY REASON I BOUGHT ONE WAS TO TRAVEL THROUGH THIS LAKE BED MUD TO GET TO WHERE I WANTED TO DEER HUNT. WELL I GUESS THE DEER WANT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT ME BECAUSE I CAN`T GET TO THEM ATLEAST NOT WITH THIS MACHINE OR ANY ONE LIKE IT. I`M STUCK AND VERY DISAPPOINTED AND BROKE! NOT REALLY`BUT IT DOES A GREAT JOB IN THE WATER AND OTHER AREAS BUT NO WAY IN MUD UNLESS IT HAS ONLY A COUPLES INCHES OF LOSE AND A HARD BOTTOM UNDER IT. THE ONE THING ABOUT A 4 WHEELER YOU DON`T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT GETTING STUCK BECAUSE YOU WILL STAY AWAY FROM AREAS LIKE THIS LAKE BED. I`M SURE I WILL GET PLENTY OF USE OUT OF THIS MACHINE BUT I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER IT HAS ITS LIMITS.

Didn't take you long to give up did it? Which Max IV did you get and what tires? Spend some time getting used to the Max before you think something can't be done. How about using tracks?

Rex;

It sounds like you have a track application. My tracks have worked excellant in any swamp or soft mud I have tried to go through.

I HAVE MAX 4 4 SEATER 18HP VANGUARD WITH TITAN TRU POWER AT 26X12.00-12 NHS TIRES.BRAND NEW. I TALKED TO THE DEALER ABOUT THIS LAKE MUD I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULDN'T NEED TRACKS. IF I NEW FORSURE THAT I WOULD HAVE TO SPEND A COUPLE THOUSAND MORE DOLLARS FOR TRACKS I WOULD HAVE PAST ON THE DEAL. MY FRIEND BOUGHT A MAX 2 AND HE CALLED ME THE NIGHT BEFORE I WENT TO PICK MINE UP AND TOLD ME THAT THEY DON'T HAVE A CHANCE TO CROSS OR ATLEAST NOT HIS. I JUST TOOK A CHANCE. ANYWAY THIS MUD AS YOU GO OUT THROUGH IT VERY VERY SLOW OR FAST IT JUST GOES SO FAR AND JUST GOES TO WHERE THE BOTTOM TOUCHES AND THATS ABOUT IT (STOPS) I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT WHEN I GO OUT INTO THIS STUFF AND GET SPOOKED AND START TO START TURNING TO AVOID GETING STUCK WHEN I TRY TO TURN LEFT OR RIGHT I WANTS TO STICK UP FASTER THEN I HAVE TO STOP AND BACK UP AND LET IT FOLLOW IT PATH BACK OUT. I SURE WISH THERE WAS SOMEBODY OUT THERE THAT COULD PROVE ME WRONG. JUST ONE MORE THING (1 AREA 10 FEET ACROSS THE CHANNEL OF THE LAKE BED FAST OR SLOW ALL I CAN GET IS RIGHT IN THE CENTER AND BOOM. ROPE TIME) I GUESS I'LL JUST LET THE LAKE BED DRY UP A WHOLE LOT MORE.( LEXINGTON NORTH CAROLINA )

Rex if your Max has the ability to start turning you should be able to make it. In deep mud the Max will not turn. If you try to, one side will spin and bury itself. You can turn sometimes by spinning one side slower than the other, making for a six wheel drive turn. You might also try swapping around all six tires for better mud traction. That might just be enough to get you through. The 18hp is a real nice engine but I think for MAXimum performance with 26" tires you need the 25hp engine. You need the speed and power to get through the deepest mud (although you need to do this controlably, not just spin out) and when it comes time to hammer down on it that 18hp just isn't going to be there.
Most of all, wait until the Max gets broke in good and you are experienced. I don't know what the area looks like that you are trying to get through, but try several different areas or keep to the edge. All the mud might look the same but be completely different and you just might make it through.
Enjoy your Max in other areas. Hopefully that isn't your only place to ride. Test it out doing other things to see just what it can do. Give 'er hell.

Soft creek bed....... we just got an argo 8x8 I/C, what a blast! we were going thoward the creek in very swampy grass, went thru' it (grass) great, we chickened out when we got to the creek bed, it was so silty gooey we were unsure of our manuverability in the creek bed. This is our VERY first weekend weekend with it, we're not real brave! Hints/ideas?
