Sad day for those of us who rode the beaches in northern Flagler County, Florida. The beaches have been closed to vehicular use by a woman by name Reynolds. She sued using the endangered species act and the rule was passed 4 to 1. Althouigh there was an optional approach...close the beaches during the turtle spawning season...the board chose full closure. Flagler Cty. could not aford the projected legal expenses.
Other counties, like St. Johns..just above us, charge a fee to vehicular users and therefore have some funds available. I have no idea why this went through, although I suspect that with more and more condos, their beach-going tenants objected to beach driving. I know that some of this blame can be laid on our ATV types. I saw a turtle nest purposely run over...though clearly marked. Always some that kill it for the many. We should all turn that type in...heck with their being fellow ATV'ers.

I'm very sorry to hear about this.

I know an idiot who lives just off the freeway in Palm Coast that drives his piece of crap Nissan truck on the beach in and around Flagler County, cutting donuts, driving on the small dunes and generally destroying vegetation, turtle nests, and whatever else his drunken white trash pea brain can focus on. His father is somehow "connected" to local law enforcement, so he never gets more than pulled over with a verbal reprimand. This guy is over 40 years old, and still acts like a spoiled teenager.

The good citizens are punished for the derelict actions of a few.
