James,my max 4 has 1'' solid axles with 5 bolt hubs same pattern as a utility trailer or early dodge rims.I'm sure if you contact recreative industries you can buy them.How about a max tub with all the running gear drive,motor,sprockets,chains centered in the middle of your barge below deck level, just lay plywood over opening now you have a flat utility deck you would just have to figure out floating hieght so as not to swamp the max below and add your water propulsion.R.I.is a laid back co. I'm sure they would let you look at parts for ideas ,especially if your project appears to successful.
